Cheetahs and other predators help their environment better than any attempts made by humankind. What exactly do they do. It's simple. They move herds such as Wildebeests, African Buffaloes, and Zebras across the plains of Africa. In so doing several things happen. The grass eaters are unable to overgraze. They're also fertilizing the lands as they move along -- need I say, they poop? The hoof prints marking where they've been, are small reservoirs for the coming rains. These reservoirs are expanded by termites that move into these hoof prints to create their underground homes increasing the containment of ground water (this is done my ants elsewhere). The result is the continuation of lush fertile grazing lands for the next generation of herd animals. Isn't nature wonderful. The use of these observations are now utilized in Wyoming, only cowboys on horseback act as the predators. The restoration of lands, once overgrazed and washed away by flooding, have come back. A variety of ecosystems thrive. While the surrounding areas not managed in this way are barren and and turns to mud/mud slides in the rainy season. So yay to the to the predators and the folks and their horses playing predator. Nature knows best.
